ABOUT MAFINGA JUNIOR SEMINARY

Mafinga Seminary is an essential place where the church of Iringa looks after the seeds of vocations sown in the hearts of young boys. God has planted the seed of vocation to priesthood in the boys entrusted to us by the bishops and parish priests. Mafinga Seminary belongs to the Diocese of Iringa and was built in 1970. It is allocated at about 93 Km from Iringa Municipality. The seminary is divided into two blocks:

  • Ordinary Level Block: Form One to Form Four in which we have exclusively Seminarians from the Diocese of Iringa and not many from the Archdiocese of Songea, Diocese of Njombe, Sumbawanga and Ifakara (the newly founded diocese).

  • Advanced level Block: Form Five to Form Six in which we have seminarians from different dioceses and religious Congregations in the country.

  • The subjects offered in Mafinga are: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, History, English, Kiswahili, Civics and Latin Language.

Spiritual Formation:

The Seminary is an educational ecclesial community… Inasmuch as it is an educating community, the Seminary and its entire life, in all its different expressions, is committed to formation, the human, intellectual, pastoral and especially spiritual formation of the future priests (Patores DaboVobis). With this regards, spiritual formation is at the basis of all kinds of formation in our seminary. It should differentiate us from all other schools. Hence the seminary daily timetable involves all seminarians, priests and workers at the seminary in liturgical celebrations. We all take part in Eucharistic celebrations, liturgy of the hours, Midday prayers, daily evening meditation and adoration of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament every Saturday, Sunday and first Friday of the month. Hence, the seminarians gain a personal knowledge of Our Lord and the strength to continually strive after virtues of piety, chastity, poverty and humility.
